On the bank of the Bega Canal, on Tudor Vladimirescu Street, there is a building characteristic for the Modern Style in Timișoara, situated in a row of interwar villas. The authorization for the building was obtained on the 1st of April 1934 by Constantin Purcariu, a well-known constructor in interwar Timișoara. The current Savoy Hotel emerged from the reconversion of the former Constantin Purcariu villa, which was designed by the famed local architect Albert Krausz, who blended morphological elements typical of modernist architecture in a complex composition that is dominated by vertical accents. The play of simple geometrical forms creates a complex shape that unfortunately does not retain the textures and renders typical of modernist architecture.
