Surely one of the most recognizable buildings of the city, the Salamon Brück Apartment Building is located in Unirii (The Union) Square in Timișoara, in a Baroque setting. The red-green chromatic, the roof’s various volumes, the Secession ornaments and the ceramic details typical of Hungarian architecture make it one of the most admired buildings, both by tourists and by the inhabitants of the city.

Until the beginning of the 20th century, on the location of the current building there was a more modest-looking construction. In April 1910 Salamon Brück obtained a construction permit for a three-storey apartment building. The new construction imagined by the city’s chief architect, László Székely, managed to impress ever since its completion because of the contrast between the square’s Baroque image and the building’s nonchalant architecture typical of the beginning of the 20th century.

This building is also closely connected to the history of pharmacies in Timișoara. In 1898 at the ground floor of the previous building there was a pharmacy called The Golden Cross belonging to Ștefan Geml. The pharmacy continued to function in the new building as well, and managed to survive through the turbulent 20th century too. Today the visitors can admire the original wooden furniture and the stained glass windows that announce the nature of the business in all the languages used in Timișoara.
