Josef Kossak was, undoubtedly, one of the most famous photographers of the city. He settled in Timișoara în 1868 and bought the photo shop in Sf. Gheorghe (St. George) Square, which he remodelled starting with 1891. In 1894 the house underwent substantial changes under the supervision of Eduard Reiter, a local architect.

Eduard Reiter opted for an elaborate aesthetic of an Eclectic nature, combining Classical elements with Neo-Rococo ones. Notice the mascarons livening the pediments of the window surrounds, the richly decorated frieze, as well as the plaque with the name of the architect and the year of construction. However, the most important detail is the photo studio on the last floor of the building, covered in glass, a practice now vanished.
