Ferencz Prushinovszky Apartment Building

Egyéb elnevezések: János Horváth Apartment Building

Cím 4 3 August 1919 Blvd. Befejezés dátuma 1893. október 23. Fő építészeti stílus Historicist/Eclectic Építész unknown

In the second half of the 19th century, on this area there was only a park (the so called Vorpark), owned by the city after it had been given away by the army, under the condition that it be maintained as a park.

However, it was widely neglected and mostly used as playground for children and for stallholders. Although the army opposed this decision, in 1888, City Hall decided to parcel out the area and allotted 20 housing lots (provided that on Andrássy Road, now 3 August 1919 Boulevard, only be built two storey high buildings).

In approximately 10 years, all the 10 lots were occupied. This is how the Ferencz Pruschinovsky House appeared, built between 1892-1893 in eclectic/historicist style.

According to a German commercial address book from 1867-1881 Pesta, Ferencz (Franz) Pruschinovsky is listed as a member of the board of the ‘Venture Factory’ (Temesvarer Aktien Fabrikshof), the company which founded Fabrica de Bere (Beer Factory) in Timişoara, in 1868. In the same records, he appears as a member of the board of the ‘Timişoara Commercial Bank’ (Temesvárer Gewerbebank. Act). In a Budapest (and surroundings) companies guide, appeared in 1887, Pruschinovsky is listed as a fur merchant from Timişoara.

The ‘HJ’ initials on the gate belong to János Horváth, the owner of the building in in the begining of 1900s.
