The construction works on the volunteer Firefighters’ Barracks in Iosefin started in July 1905 and were finalised the following year.
The ensemble, designed by the famous architect of Timișoara László Székely in the 1900s style, stands out because of its lean observation tower and its decoration depicting typical firefighting props.
In 1931 the tower was damaged by a powerful storm and was never restored to its original aspect, thus leading the ensemble to lose its soaring silhouette. Because of its height, the tower offered a panoramic view of Iosefin neighbourhood and of a small part of Elisabetin neighbourhood. At the same time, it was a landmark for the community, contributing to the characteristic silhouette of the neighbourhood alongside the smoke chimneys of the factories in the area.
