Situated in close proximity to Victoria Square, the former Carlton Hotel is one of the purest manifestations of the Modern Style in Timișoara. The building permit was granted to Carlton Hotel S.A. on the 31st of October 1935. Designed by local architect Albert Krausz, and built by entrepreneur J. Jänner, the former Carlton Hotel stands out through the simplicity of its architectural composition and the characteristic details of the period's aesthetics, such as aerodynamic lines, balcony ironwork or the Art-Deco inspired mast. With over 50 rooms for rent, high-level auxiliary functions, and a famed restaurant made by Dezső Hirschmann, the Carlton was the favourite rendez-vous of tourists and many locals in interwar Timișoara.
