The project for the Communal Slaughterhouse can be considered the first great creation of architect László Székely after becoming the chief architect of Timișoara. The construction of the eleven-building ensemble was begun in 1904 and was already finished by 1905. Today, out of the entire ensemble, functional until 1992, only the water tower and two flanking wings of administrative use remain, along with the entry gate and surrounding fence. The entry gate features two groups of statues with scenes inspired by the functions of the architectural complex. Designed in the style of the 1900s, influenced by the Secession Art Movement, the ensemble of the Communal Slaughterhouse is one of the highest accomplishments of industrial architecture in Timișoara.
